Course Description:
Topics for AP Vertical Teams Mathematics is designed for teachers interested in vertically aligning curriculum and instruction in order to facilitate student’s ability to access higher levels of mathematics such as AP courses. The focus of this workshop is to investigate what teachers teach and how teachers teach. It addresses how teachers communicate and collaborate with each other. The intent of the workshop is to promote and support the establishment of AP Vertical Teams, provide the skills necessary to maintain a collaborative working relationship and establish an atmosphere for building a vertical team.
Another focus of the workshop is to help teachers understand the philosophy and goals of the College Board Pre-AP Program, and the importance of establishing equity for all students. Planning goals, activities, timelines, and evaluations, are important functions of the vertical team. Using the strategies and knowledge participants will gain about vertical teams, along with some content specific plans, we hope teachers will be able to integrate new content into their academic courses that lead to the content and skill expectations found in an AP Course.
