Welcome to the Auburn University Pre-Advanced Placement: Vertical Team Training (VTT) website. VTT is designed to aid in the professional development of teachers, counselors, and administrators who are involved with VTT courses. A Pre-AP Vertical Team is a group of teachers who teach a given discipline at different grade levels (typically, grades 6 through 12) within a school system and work cooperatively to develop and implement a vertically aligned program aimed at helping students acquire the academic skills necessary for success in the Advanced Placement Program.

A "vertical team" will normally consist of administrators and teachers from a high school and its feeder middle schools who learn to explore multiple strategies for promoting curriculum continuity within their school system. Teams should consist of at least 1 middle school and 2 high school teachers/administrators or 2 middle and 1 high school teacher/administrator from related schools. By aligning curriculum, a team of middle and high school teachers can create a more efficient program, generate more success on the part of more students, develop a more challenging curriculum, and make AP classes accessible to more students. New and experienced teachers/administrators receive invaluable training. Participants should leave with a renewed sense of enthusiasm along with practical ideas and resource materials for challenging their students in the coming year.

Auburn University, in cooperation with College Board, will offer teacher workshops in the areas of English, Social Sciences and History, Mathematics for Pre-Algebra and Algebra I, Mathematics for Algebra II and Geometry, Science for Life, Physical and Earth, and Science for Biology and Chemistry. These workshops will be held on the campus of Auburn University during the week of June 23-27, 2008. All workshop instructors will be College Board endorsed consultants. Tuition is $500. An additional lab fee of $35 will be assessed for Science workshops.

The Auburn University APSI is co-sponsored by the Outreach Program Office and the Truman Pierce Institute (College of Education).  The institute is endorsed by College Board.

This AP Summer Institute has been endorsed by CollegeBoard Advanced Placement Program
