Quiet Courage: The James Curtis Owens Story
James Owens, Auburn University’s first African American scholarship football player, enrolled at Auburn University in 1969. Quiet Courage © is the untold story of the football pioneer, the husband and father, and the man. Highly recruited and celebrated, 63 colleges pursued his talents. All State in football, basketball, and track-and-field; he possessed 100-yard dash speed and shot put strength. He broke the college football color barrier in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and South Carolina when an unlikely suitor, Auburn, the state land grant university in rural southeast Alabama, won him. James Curtis Owens, with his Auburn University teammates for life, tells his story with the same quiet courage with which he lived his life.
The premiere screening of Quiet Courage will take place on November 10, 2014 at the Auburn University Hotel and Dixon Conference Center.
Individual tickets are $25 each; ticket holders are invited to attend a reception prior to the documentary screening. (A cash bar will be available during the reception.)
DVDs of the documentary will be available for purchase during the event. Attendees will have an opportunity to have DVDs, and other memorabilia, signed by Mr. Owens and other members of the cast.
