OLLI at Auburn Receives ACHE Award

The Auburn University Academy for Lifelong Learners (now the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Auburn University, OLLI at Auburn) was recognized at the 2008 Association for Continuing Higher Education South  meeting  with the distinguished non-credit program award. This award is given each year to one excellent program selected within the ten state region.  OLLI at Auburn (formerly AUALL) was given this honor for its record of excellence for more than seventeen years  as an example of the best in Outreach Community programming.  OLLI at Auburn, a peer-led member organization,  offers as many as 35  non-credit classes to each quarter, and is open to all interested people. OLLI at Auburn members enjoy a variety of additional benefits on the Auburn University campus.

The AUall program was organized in 1990 by Mary Burkhart, who conceived the program after attending a 1988 conference on programs for retirees. Now retired herself, Burkhart continues to serve as the program’s coordinator through the Outreach Program Office.
