Barbara Jacoby |
University of Maryland's Barbara Jacoby will speak on "Outreach, Engagement and Service Learning" at the opening session of the Engagement and Service Learning Colloquia, on Thursday, October 15 at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Center room 2222. The Colloquia is hosted by the Biggio Center, the Office of University Outreach and the Office of Access and Community Initiatives, in support of Auburn's strategic initiatives promoting service learning. Jacoby is senior scholar at Marylands Adele H. Stamp Student Union where she facilitates academic partnerships, assessment, civic engagement, scholarship, and learning.
In addition, she is senior scholar for the National Clearinghouse for Commuter Programs, having served as the director of the program from 1983 to 2003. Dr. Jacoby received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in French Language and Literature in 1978. Dr. Jacoby's scholarly interests include service learning and civic engagement; she has six books in publication including three focusing specifically on civic engagement and service learning (available at the Colloquia).
The colloquia will continue through spring semester, presenting leading experts offering national perspectives on institutional and educational practices that promote a culture of engagement.
