Alyson Whyte Editor Encyclopedia of Alabama University Outreach |
The Office of the Vice President of University Outreach has appointed Alyson Whyte Editor of the Encyclopedia of Alabama. Whyte’s appointment was effective spring semester. She succeeds Jeff Jakeman who retired in 2011.
Whyte also continues in her faculty appointment as associate professor of English language arts education in the Department of Curriculum & Teaching. As editor, Whyte will oversee the content development and operations for the Encyclopedia of Alabama, the free, online reference resource on Alabama’s history, culture, geography, and natural environment.
In addition to her editorial duties, Whyte teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in English language education. Whyte’s previous research included applied research on writing response group work in high school English classes and a program evaluation of the National Writing Project model of professional development of teachers of writing.
Whyte is the author or co-author of several books and a monograph in her field. She has presented more than 25 papers and lectures at nationally and internationally refereed meetings of such professional associations as the National Council of Teachers of English, the International Reading Association, and the American Educational Research Association.
