The structure of the
I-85 Corridor Alliance is currently in transition as the program moves
from its initial stages as an economic development concept and initiative
to its more permanent structure as an Alliance of public, private and
university groups committed to increasing the prosperity of communities along
Interstate 85 in Alabama.
During the summer
of 2004, the Executive Council concluded that the program needed a more
permanent structure. Thus, the Executive Council prepared Articles of Incorporation
and By-Laws and the name of the organization was changed from the I-85
Corridor Initiative to the I-85 Corridor Alliance. The Articles of
Incorporation of the I-85 Corridor Alliance were approved by the
Executive Council and the Articles of Incorporation were filed with the
Alabama Secretary of State and the Lee County Judge of Probate on September
30, 2004 under the provisions of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue
Code.
The By-Laws were completed
in December 2004 and approved by the Executive Council on January 6, 2005.
With the adoption
of Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws the Board of Directors
and Officers were appointed for 2005.
An open working session
for the Board and adjunct participants in the Alliance meets monthly
on the 4th Thursday of the month from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. CT. Meeting location
rotates throughout the Corridor.
