Club will
discuss the rise of the American fast food industry with Eric Schlosser's
non-fiction book Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All American Meal.
The next meeting of
the AU Libraries Book Club will be on October 27 in the first floor Systems
Classroom of RBD Library. This month the club will be discussing Fast
Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal by Eric Schlosser.
Meetings will take place at both 11:45 a.m. and 5 p.m. Members can choose
to attend either session.
All interested persons
on the AU Campus and Auburn community are invited to attend. There is no
fee.
Fast Food Nation
is currently on the New York Times bestsellers list. Author Eric Schlosser
documents the rise of the American fast food industry and artfully ties it
to issues like obesity, classism and environmental devastation. Schlosser
uses a truthful journalistic style to raise questions about the practices
and the food used by big, corporate restaurant chains. He even critiques
the current globalization of the same corporate chains.
The Boston Globe calls
the book "reminiscent of Upton Sinclair's The Jungle." Rob
Walker of the New York Times says the text "is a fine piece of muckraking,
alarming without being alarmist," and the Atlanta Journal- Constitution
says this "should be another wake-up call, a super-size serving of common
sense."
Join the club October
27 to discuss this nonfiction bestseller. Feel free to bring lunch if choosing
to come to the 11:45 a.m. meeting or supper at the 5 p.m. meeting. The discussion
is open to everyone. The book is available for purchase from the University
Bookstore for 15 percent off the cover price. For more information, please
