PROGRAM ON-SITE REGISTRATION AND CHECK-OUT

Hotel Check-in/Check-out:

Hotel check-in time is at 3:00 p.m.  If a vacant room is available, however, you may be able to check-in at an earlier time.
Hotel check-out time is 12:00 noon on the last day.
Program will conclude after breakfast and a short class/evaluation of performances with professor.
To arrange to stay the night before the program, or to stay an extra night at the Elderhostel rate, please call: Adrienne Larkin @ (334) 270-3223 at Country Inn and Suites in Montgomery.  Identify yourself as being part of the Elderhostel group.

ABOUT COUNTRY INN & SUITES @ MONTGOMERY AND PARKING

Hotel and Room Amenities:

The hotel is located one block off of I-85, East Blvd. (Exit 6).  There are many shopping outlets and restaurants located on East Blvd.
Hotel provides daily linen service, business center with internet access, fitness center, large indoor heated pool and whirlpool, free weekday newspaper, lending library, indoor corridors, cozy lobby and nice eating area.
All rooms/suites have microwave, mini-fridge, in-room coffee, hair dryer, iron & ironing board, and free local telephone calls.
Hotel is approximately 1 mile from the Blount Cultural Park, site of Alabama Shakespeare Festival.  It is 7-8 miles to the River Walk, and the Government District.
Hotel is approximately 12 miles to Robert Trent Jones Capitol Hill Golf Course located in Prattville, AL.

Parking at Country Inn and Shakespeare Festival Sites:

There is no charge to park at the hotel.
There is no charge to park at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
Van and/or bus transportation will be made available.

Meals Information

Meal choices:

Breakfast at hotel: Deluxe continental breakfast with hot and cold items (eg: fruit, yogurt, waffles, sausage biscuit, hard boiled eggs, coffee, juice, sweet breakfast rolls and cereals)
Lunch:  Day 2 lunch will be at Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
                 Day 3 lunch will be catered at the Theater
Dinners:  Will be catered at the hotel and/or eaten at local restaurants on Day 1 and Day 2.  For Day 3, pick a restaurant of your choice (not included in program fee).

Travel Information

*Note: Montgomery, AL is on CENTRAL time and Atlanta, GA is on EASTERN time.*

TRAVELING BY AIR

Fly in to the Montgomery Airport.  The airport is approximately 15 minutes/10 miles from the hotel.
Suggested shuttle or taxi service between the airport and the hotel include:  Yellow Cab (334)-262-5225, The New Deal Cab (334) 262-4747, Airport Shuttle (334) 279-6662, or Tony Harris Shuttle (334) 221-7637.

TRAVELING BY CAR

If you are traveling from the direction of:

Atlanta, GA (East of Montgomery) (160 miles) – Take I-85 toward Montgomery, AL.  Travel through Auburn, AL and on to Montgomery.  Take Exit 6 (Troy Highway).  At the end of the ramp make a left turn.  You will pass over I-85 on an overpass.  Travel to Carmichael. Turn right on Carmichael.  Travel approximately 1 block and the hotel will be on the right.

Birmingham, AL (North of Montgomery) (93 miles) – Take I-65 South toward Montgomery.  Take I-85 North toward Atlanta.  Travel on I-85 North and look for Exit 6 signs. Do NOT take the Exit 6 sign that says Wetumpka.  DO take the Exit 6 sign that says, “Troy Highway”.  Exit off of I-85 and veer to right at bottom of the ramp. The first light after you exit from I-85 will be Carmichael. Turn right on Carmichael. Travel approximately 1 block and hotel will be on the right.

Mobile, AL (South of Montgomery)  (170 miles)- Take I-65 North toward Montgomery. Take I-85 North toward Atlanta. Travel on I-85 North and look for Exit 6 signs. Do NOT take the Exit 6 sign that says Wetumpka.  DO take the Exit 6 sign that says, “Troy Highway”.  Exit off of I-85 and veer to right at bottom of the ramp. The first light after you exit from I-85 will be Carmichael. Turn right on Carmichael. Travel approximately 1 block and hotel will be on the right.

Selma, AL (West of Montgomery)  ( 50 miles)  Take US Hwy 80 West from Selma toward Montgomery.  Take I-65 North toward Montgomery.  Take I-85 North toward Atlanta. Travel on I-85 North and look for Exit 6 signs. Do NOT take the Exit 6 sign that says Wetumpka.  DO take the Exit 6 sign that says, “Troy Highway”.  Exit off of I-85 and veer to right at bottom of the ramp. What to Bring (Generally)

Comfortable walking shoes
Clothing that can be layered in case the heat or the air-conditioning systems are activated.
Depending on the specific season, bringing a coat, rain gear and umbrella can be a good idea.
Work-out clothes if you want to use hotel fitness facility
Hat, visor, sun screen for our Southern sunshine
Notebook or note paper in case you want to take notes
Flashlight (for emergency use)
Camera, extra memory devices for digital cameras, batteries and/or battery charger
Toiletries and medications
We will be attending two theater performances, but it is not necessary to be dressed up
Credit card: You will be asked to provide a credit card when registering at the hotel to cover any incidental expenses you may have, such as room service, long distance calls, etc.
If planning to play golf, there is a collar shirt requirement for men.  There is a “no denim” recommendation for all players.

Classes and Activities:
Hotel registration as early as 3:00 p.m. (Central time zone).
Elderhostel program registration 3:30-4:30  (Central time zone).
Classes will be conducted at the hotel, the theater, and the art museum .
The Shakespearean Garden class will be out doors.
Program will conclude after breakfast and a short class on final day.
