Golfing at Callaway Gardens: "Better Than Par"

Program Description

Enjoy an incredible time improving your game at the famous Callaway Gardens, the former home of the PGA Tour's Buick Challenge. The traditional course lay-out winds between lakes and through statuesque pines and cathedral oaks. Group instruction on swing techniques, under the tutelage of the personable and award winning teaching pros, and classroom sessions plus 54 holes on 2 courses will enhance your performance and understanding of this great game. Additional golf related sessions may include such things as "little known rules", stretching-fitness regimens, and mental aspects of the game. Visits to major attractions (eg: Butterfly and Horticulture Centers) and the history of Callaway Gardens is included in the week's activities.

Note:  54 holes of golf, 5-6 hours of golf instruction, cart use and club storage included in fee. Bring golf equipment. Some walking required.

Reminders:

If you plan to arrive a night early, or depart a day after the program concludes, call please call: Lorraine McGhee or Stacie Rice at 706 -663-6729, well in advance of your preferred date to have a better chance of room availability. Identify yourself as being part of the Elderhostel program. If there are rooms available, they should honor your request.

If possible, please deliver your golf clubs to the golf course prior to Program Registration. (see map)

Program Registration:  3:30-4:30 p.m. (Eastern Time Zone) on Day 1.  Report to the Mountain Creek Inn registration desk to determine where Elderhostel registration has been assigned. 

Hotel Registration:  After 4:00 p.m. or earlier if a room is available.

Program Forms

ALL PARTICIPANTS* in the May 11-15, 2008 program ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE, SIGN AND RETURN THE FOLLOWING FOUR FORMS BY APRIL 21, 2008.

*Even those participants who register together will need to complete and submit separate forms (one per participant).

1.) U.S. & Canada Program Health & Safety Form “Per Elderhostel guidelines, you are required to complete, sign and return this form as a condition of participation in this program.”   Please print, complete, sign and return form by April 21, 2008. 

2.) Auburn University Hold Harmless Form Per Auburn University, you are required to complete, sign and return this form by April 21, 2008

Specific Program Information

WHAT TO BRING FOR GOLFING AT CALLAWAY

-In addition to the generic recommendations made under the Site Information section, the following suggestions are applicable for this program”

  • Golf clubs and appropriate golfing paraphernalia
  • Visor/hat
  • Rain gear
  • Clothing that can be layered
  • Sun screen
  • Comfortable shoes for non-golf activities
  • Bathing suit (there is an indoor/outdoor pool approximately 10 minutes away from the Mountain Creek Inn)
  • Collared shirt requirement for men, and preferably no denim.

This tentative schedule reflects the most probable scenario; but, it is subject to change. As with any out door, and weather dependent program, we must remain flexible with regards to scheduling.  And, as advertised, the schedule provides 54 holes of golf, plus the opportunity to visit the main venues at Callaway Gardens.
