Intensive Retail Development Course

The Intensive Retail Development Course is a two-day course opelika_downtownpresented by the Economic & Community Development Institute (ECDI) at Auburn University. ECDI has offered a retail development courseon a biannual basis since 2006. This year's course will be held at the Montgomery Marriott Prattville at Capitol Hill on December 6-7 and feature new speakers, proven ideas, and Alabama success stories.

The 2012 Intensive Retail Development Course will include:

  • An introductory overview presentation
  • A panel on community-based retail development comprised of successful economic development practitioners who have used innovative strategies to attract retail development to their communities
  • A panel of key retail site selectors and developers and an opportunity to meet retail location decision-makers at an intimate course reception
  • A panel of community leaders who have been key drivers behind successful downtown development and revitalization efforts in some of the state's (big and small) thriving downtown retail and commercial districts
  • An expert presentation on financing retail development
  • An overview of retail partnership opportunities available in Alabama
  • A surprise keynote speaker who will lead us in a discussion on how your community can take retail development "to the next level"

Building upon the success of its annual two-week Intensive Economic Development Training Course, ECDI introduced a series of short courses focusing on areas in which Alabama economic and community development professionals have expressed a desire for more training. The Intensive Retail Development Course is part of this important training series.

ECDI will not issue direct cash refunds for this course. Instead, the registration fee may be applied to another future ECDI course.


The course will be held at the Montgomery Marriott Prattville at Capitol Hill, located at 2500 Legends Circle in Prattville. Hotel reservations are not included in the course fee.


A special rate of $119/night plus tax is available to course participants for Wednesday, December 5th and Thursday, December 6th on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please indicate that you are attending this ECDI course in order to receive this rate.
