Stories from the Field
At ECDI, we believe economic and community development encompasses a range of strategies, well beyond the traditional definition of industrial recruitment. To us, economic and community development includes supporting existing businesses, ensuring students graduate with employable skills, protecting natural resources, creating cultural events and tourism trails, and growing local leaders. Economic and community development requires hard work, creative thinking, and grit. The stories below provide examples of successful development efforts in Alabama, and are meant to both inspire readers and celebrate community leaders working everyday to improve the lives of their fellow citizens.
Several of these efforts were supported by the Rural Alabama Initiative. Click here to learn more.
