CTMU 1010 Orientation to Teacher Education

For freshmen and new transfer students in Music Education. Orientation to the teaching profession. 2 sections in Fall and in Spring.

CTMU 3040 Music and Related Arts

For Elementary and Early Childhood Majors who have been admitted to teacher education. Interdisciplinary instruction appropriate for students’ developmental characteristics which synthesize the content, professional resources, curriculum goals and instructional strategies of music. Includes field experiences in rural schools. 2-3 sections Fall and Spring.

CTMU 5940 Elementary Music Methods

For Music Education Majors who have been admitted to teacher education and proved progress toward piano competency. Methodology, materials, organization and activities for elementary school music programs. Includes field experiences that require proof of negative TB test less than 3 years old. 1 section in Fall.

CTMU 5960 Secondary Music Methods

For Music Education Majors who have been admitted to teacher education and proved progress toward piano competency. Methodology, materials, organization and activities for secondary music programs. Includes field experiences that require proof of negative TB test less than 3 years old. 1 section in Spring.

CTMU 4910A Practicum in Music Education

For Music Education Majors who have been admitted to teacher education, passed piano competency, and passed CTMU 5960. Cooperatively selected field experience. Focus on middle school music. Course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credit hours. Includes field experiences that require proof of negative TB test less than 3 years old. 1 section in Fall.

CTMU 4910B Practicum in Music Education Technology

For Music Education Majors who are currently enrolled in CTMU 4910A. Focus on technology for music education. 1 section in Fall.

CTMU 4910B Practicum in Music Education Instrumental Methods

For Instrumental Music Education Majors who are currently enrolled in CTMU 4910A. Focus on beginning band insruction. 1 section in Fall.

CTMU 4920 Internship

For Music Education Majors who have met all requirements for student teaching. Supervised on-the-job experience in an elementary school and a secondary school. Includes field experiences that require proof of negative TB test less than 1 year old. 2 sections in Spring.

CTMU 4900 Independent Study

Allows credit for independent projects. Independent reading, research or other work focused on a content area of special interest. The student is directed by a faculty member. Course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credit hours. Requires instructor permission. Offered at various times.

CTMU 4970 Special Topics

Allows credit for music education workshops. Cooperatively selected concepts and theories pursued, normally in small groups. Course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credit hours. Requires instructor permission. Offered at various times, generally in the summer.
