Canfield’s job is to ensure that the four priorities of the Department are fulfilled: recruitment and expansion activity, export opportunities for Alabama companies, small business opportunities, and avenues for job creation in the film and entertainment industry.

As chairman of the AEDA, Canfield plays a lead role in implementing the strategic plan that concentrates on the state’s strengths in 11 sectors, including aerospace/defense, automotive, agricultural products/food distribution, steel/metals, forestry products, chemicals, biosciences, information technology, enabling technologies, distribution/logistics, and corporate  operations.

Prior to joining the department, Canfield served in the Alabama House of Representatives as chairman of the Commerce & Small Business Committee.
