The Alabama Local Government Training Institute (ALGTI) and the Center for Governmental Services at Auburn University, provide training and professional development for Alabama county commissioners.
There are currently two programs: the fifty-hour State mandated Commissioner Education Program for all newly elected commissioners; and the seventy-hour Commissioner Graduate Program. The goals of the ALGTI education program are to: (a) Develop and maintain high standards of public service among county commissioners; (b) Increase knowledge about the roles and responsibilities of county commissioners; (c) Provide an information base for policy making; and (d) Improve the overall administration and delivery of county services.
