The Center for Governmental Services was formed in 1976 and has represented Auburn University's commitment to excellence in state and local government. The Center's mission is to improve and transform governance through innovation, research, technical assistance and training.
The Center continues to utilize tools and multidisciplinary approaches that are designed to provide high-quality services that make our outreach efforts more vital than ever. The Center's talented staff excels in many areas including applied research, survey research, technical assistance in human resource management, training and professional development, and financial administration and management. CGS works in cooperation with local and state governments, and with professional associations to carry out much of its mission. While the Center focuses its efforts on local governments, it reaches beyond the borders of Alabama in vision and scope.
Several CGS national initiatives are of critical importance to Americans and local governments world-wide and deal with the issues of transparency in governments, public trust, emergency preparedness, and immigration. We invite you to explore these growing initiatives as they continue to develop and will be included on this website.
The Center is also involved in several international programs and processes with South Korea, South Africa, and with the formation of the Global Transparency Alliance for Governments (GTAG).
