Governmental Excellence and Best Practices Teleconference

On January 26, 2006 the Center for Governmental Services was pleased to host the Governmental Excellence and Best Practices Teleconference. The event brought together some of the Nation's premiere experts in areas such as disaster preparedness; management of money, people, and information; and infrastructure issues.

Dr. Don-Terry Veal, Center for Governmental Services Director, moderated the event and panelists included:

  • Ambassador Andrew Young, Chairman, GoodWorks International
  • Richard Greene, Senior Project Coordinator and Editor for Governing Magazine
  • Sylvester Murray, Professor of Urban Studies and Public Administration at Cleveland State University
  • Phil May, Bureau Chief at the Alabama Emergency Management Agency
  • Susan Thompkins Willie, Director, Government Performance Project for the Pew Charitable Trust s
  • James W. Williams, Jr., Executive Director, Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA)

Ambassador Young was the guest of honor at a luncheon held prior to the teleconference. Auburn's Mayor Bill Ham presented Ambassador Young with a Key to the City of Auburn and announced that January 26 will be recognized as Ambassador Young Day. Auburn University Interim President Ed Richardson presented Ambassador Young with the Auburn University Distinguished Public Service Award.
