GEAR UP Alabama: College & Career Readiness Academy
July 8-13, 2018

This academy provides rising 10th and 11th grade GEAR UP students the chance to go beyond dreaming of their future. Students engage in hands-on career exploration in a variety of fields including academic, technical and civil service (firefighter, police, EMT etc.). Each day students will be introduced to new career possibilities by actual professionals in designated areas. Students will learn what people actually do, what they have to know and how one gains the education and experience to have a career in their chosen field. A general overview of the college process is also provided by touching on admissions, financial aid and other college opportunities. Students will be encouraged to develop defined work habits and become empowered advocates of their own learning, creativity, critical thinking, and academic achievement.
