Miss Christel August Haygood is a tenth grade English teacher at Booker T. Washington High School in Tuskegee, Alabama where she was also a 2006 graduate. She has served in various positions there including as the Sponsor of the Sophomore Class, ONYX Mentoring Program Advisor, and as the assistant Cheerleading coach. In her community, she is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Incorporated (Beta Xi Omega Chapter). Currently, along with her teaching duities, she serves as the Cheerleading coach at Tuskegee Institute Middle School.
After recently being diagnosed with breast cancer this past July, Miss Haygood has intensified her community outreach by becoming an advocate for the East Alabama Medical Center’s Cancer Treatment Center. She is a graduate of Tuskegee University where she majored in English and History and served as Miss Tuskegee 2009-2010. She is currently pursuing her Masters degree in Secondary English/Language Arts Education at Auburn University at Montgomery.
