Educating Equitably in Public Educational Spaces
Heidi Lyn Hadley, Assistant Professor, Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Auburn University
What is equitable and inclusive education? In this presentation, we’ll discuss a framework that considers both the promise of and the challenges inherent in providing an equitable and inclusive educational environment on interpersonal, curricular, and systemic levels in public education. We’ll examine what it means to nurture equity and inclusion in education by critically caring for students, critically designing curriculum, critically engaging difference within classroom spaces, and critically communicating with students, families, and communities.

Heidi Lyn Hadley is an assistant professor of English education in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Auburn University. She has previously worked as a public high school teacher, teaching both English Language Arts and English to Speakers of Other Languages. Her current research interests are equitable and inclusive education, teacher education, and community literacy practices.

Through an informative presentation and practical demonstrations, participants will gain insights into identifying asthma triggers, implementing effective management strategies, and optimizing child and adult respiratory health. By empowering attendees with knowledge and resources, this presentation aims to foster a healthier and more informed approach to living with asthma.
Dr. Linda Gibson-Young, Nurse Clinician, Researcher, and Educator
Dr. Linda Gibson-Young a nurse clinician, researcher, and educator with over 25 years of experience working to advance child and family health in rural communities. She is chair of the Alabama Asthma Coalition, a network of people and organizations across Alabama dedicated towards improving the lives of individuals living with asthma. She works with families of children aged 7–12 years throughout the rural south in clinic, school, and camp settings. She and her teams have secured extramural and foundation grants to deliver asthma interventions in rural clinics, schools, and community settings. Findings are published in high impact nursing and public health journals.

One of the newest teams supporting your favorite Auburn Tigers has already tremendously impacted Auburn Athletics. Join Brett Whiteside and special guests as they explain how Auburn’s NIL collective, “On to Victory,” supports student-athletes and their plan to keep Auburn competitive on the field and classroom, appealing to potential student-athletes, and paving the way for championships and future success.

Brett Whiteside is a 2012 Arkansas State graduate. He earned his master’s degree in administration of higher education from Auburn in 2015 and Whiteside is on track to complete a PhD in administration of higher education, also from Auburn, in May 2023.
Whiteside worked on the Auburn football staff from 2013 to 2020. He served as Director of Recruiting Operations before being promoted to Director of Football Operations. In that role, Whiteside was responsible for budget oversight, team scheduling, organizing team travel and day-to-day operations. Whiteside served as the liaison to athletics administration, Tigers Unlimited, business office, compliance, media relations and University departments.
He joined On To Victory, the official name, image, and likeness (NIL) collective of the Auburn Tigers in August 2022. In this role he oversees all aspects of the organization and works with the board of directors to ensure goals are met to support its mission of serving as the NIL collective enabling ALL of the Auburn Family to actively support Auburn Student Athletes by cultivating and expanding name, image, and likeness opportunities.

When is Simulation a Digital Twin?

This presentation will be about Digital Twins. Confusion often surrounds the distinction between Digital Twins and simulations due to their complementary nature. While they appear similar, they are fundamentally different concepts. The goal of this presentation is to provide some clarifications of what is a Digital Twin, and discuss the similarities and differences in capability between Digital Twin and Simulation.
Dr. Ana Wooley, Assistant Professor, Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (ISEEM), The University of Alabama in Huntsville
Dr. Ana Wooley is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (ISEEM) at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. She completed her PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Auburn University in 2023 and she holds a Master's degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the same institution. She is an expert in modeling and simulation of manufacturing systems, with a particular focus on automotive manufacturing systems. Dr. Wooley’s current research focuses on digital twin development, smart manufacturing, simulation, and seamless integration of these technologies into manufacturing systems. She has collaborated with leading automotive companies such as Honda to develop simulations of the manufacturing line.
