Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

The Cisco AnyConnect VPN (Virtual Private Network) Client is valuable software that is used to access a secure connection to certain AU resources, such as the AU network from off-campus and parts of Banner Admin. The Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client available to download at the AU Install page. You must request VPN access through MyAccount before you can connect.

How-To

  • Download and Install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client
    1. Visit: AU Install
    2. Scroll down and locate the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client entry and click the link on the right that corresponds to your current operating system: Linux, Macintosh (PPC or i386), or Windows.

    3. You will be prompted to Open or Save. Choose Save and select a location on your computer that is easy for you to get to.

      Note: The download may take a few minutes to complete.
    4. Double-click on the downloaded installer.
    5. Step One: Press the "Next" button.

    6. Step Two: Read the terms in the License Agreement, Select the radio button that means you accept the agreement, and then press the "Next" button.

    7. Step Three: Press the "Install" button.

    8. Step Four: Finally, press the "Finish" button.

      Step 4: Press Finish
    9. Once the program is installed, open the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client application and press the "Connect" button.

      Note: Windows users will find it located in the Programs List in a folder called Cisco > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

      New users may need to enter "auvpn.auburn.edu".



    10. When the application has connected to auvpn.auburn.edu it will present a couple of group options for you and fields to authenticate to the AU Network.

      Most users should select AUSEC, enter your username & password, and press the "OK" button.

      Note: Banner Admin users may select BANNER as the group.

    11. Lastly, you must accept the Auburn University IT Terms & Use Agreement. Press the "Accept" button to do so.

  • Using the VPN client to connect to the AU network
    1. Open the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client application and press the "Connect" button.

      Note: Windows users will find it located in the Programs List in a folder called Cisco > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

      New users may need to enter "auvpn.auburn.edu".



    2. When the application has connected to auvpn.auburn.edu it will present a couple of group options for you and fields to authenticate to the AU Network.

  • VPN Settings for Mac iOS
    The vpn configuration setting for the Mac iOS have been bundled in this file for your convenience: AuburnVPNSigned.mobileconfig
  • VPN Settings for Android
    • Add VPN
    • Add L2TP/IPSec PSK VPN
    • VPN Name: AU
    • Set VPN server: auvpn.auburn.edu
    • Set IPSec pre-shared key: auauth
    • Make sure the "L2TP secret" is disabled

  • Configure Snow Leopard for Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

    To configure Snow Leopard to work with Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client use the following instructions:

    1. Open System Preferences -> Network.
    2. Click the "+" sign at the bottom of the left panel.
    3. Select VPN from under the Interface drop-down options.
    4. Select Cisco IPSec listed under the VPN Type drop-down options.
    5. Name the new service and press Create.
    6. On the VPN Network panel, add information for the Server Name: 131.204.133.70 and Account Name (your User Name).
    7. Click the "Authentication Settings" button and add auauth2 as the Shared Secret and AUSEC as Group Name entries.
    8. Click OK to save your changes.
    9. Make sure that "Show VPN status in menu bar" is checked on the VPN Network panel for ease of future connections.

    The Terms of Use agreement will be displayed.
