Peer-to-peer file sharing disabled
Peer-to-peer file sharing is not accessible via AU_WiFi. File sharing web sites and applications, including those that share illegal audio and video files, are blocked on AU_WiFi to prevent copyright violations. Legal methods to download music on the Internet will continue to be accessible.
Why are we taking this action?
Auburn University received a large number of complaints from the owners of copyrighted works that were being pirated by users in the on-campus residential community. The reproduction and distribution of copyrighted intellectual property, including software, audio, video and still images is a criminal offense. Auburn University is held accountable for the actions of these students. The University as well as the students committing the violations could be held liable for damages.
The duplication of copyrighted material is explicitly prohibited in the Appropriate Use Policy and all AU students are expected to comply with this policy.
