How-to Update & Verify Definition Files

Follow these steps:

1. On your Windows desktop, click on the VirusScan icon on the your Windows task bar.

   

2. Right-click on this icon and select Update Now… from the menu that appears.
   
   



3. The McAfee AutoUpdate Wizard will begin to extract the virus definition files needed for the update.
   
   
   
   
4. When the update is finished click the Close button or wait 30 seconds for the window to close automatically.



5. To verify that the update was successful:
   
   Right-click on the VirusScan icon from the Windows task bar.
   Left-click on VirusScan Console
   
   
   
   The VirusScan Console window will appear. Confirm that 'The Update succeeded' appears in the Last Result column.
   
   
   
   You can also verify the update by clicking on the Help menu of the VirusScan Console and selecting About.
   
   
   
   This screen will appear. Check the Created On: date to see if it matches a current time period. For example, the Created On date for this window shows the virus definition files were last updated on September 25, 2007.
