Install McAfee VirusScan Enterprise Software
In order to get McAfee VirusScan installed on your computer, you only need to download and install the McAfee Common Management Agent. Once the Agent is installed it will communicate with the Auburn University ePO server and run a task to install the software you need (i.e., VirusScan 8.5i and the AntiSpyware Module). This software installation may take up to 30 minutes after the Agent has been installed.
Follow these steps:
- Verify that your computer meets the system requirements.
- If you already have another virus protection program such as Norton (Symantec), uninstalling it before you download VirusScan 8.5i is recommended (Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs or contact the OIT HelpDesk for assistance).
Note: To install you must have Administrative rights as a user on your computer. Also no VirusScan tasks must be running during installation. (This could be a scheduled task or if you machine has been turned off for a period of time McAfee may run a missed scan.)
- Visit AU Install to download McAfee VirusScan Enterprise.
- When prompted to Run or Save the file, click Run.
- Files will be extracted to the C:\tmp_mcafee_agent directory and the installation of the agent will start.
- You will see a window appear showing the status of the Agent installation.
- Files will be extracted to the C:\tmp_mcafee_agent directory and the installation of the agent will start.
- When the installation is complete, you will be prompted with a ‘Setup is complete” dialog box. Click OK to close the window.
Within 10 minutes the Agent will communicate with the Auburn University ePO server and process any tasks currently configured for enforcement.
If you have older Anti-Virus software installed, it will be upgraded to McAfee VirusScan 8.5i along with the AntiSpyware Module.
If you already have the latest software, then your software will remain the same but you have now established proper communication with the Auburn University ePO server.
If you experience any problems with this installation, please send an email message to: helpdesk@auburn.edu.
