Updated: Cellular service impacted by last night's fire

Initially posted Feb. 28 @ 8:00 a.m.

Last night, February 27th, a fire at the cellular tower site, located at the corner of Samford Avenue and Hemlock Drive, damaged the electrical panel that provides power to the cellular service providers that have equipment on the tower. The cellular service providers are generally equipped with backup generators and we expect those systems to stay up and running; however, the repair time may be lengthy and could intermittently reduce cellular service while the repairs are being made.

We know this has initially impacted the Verizon Guest wireless network, which is used heavily at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. A Verzion technical team is en route to resolve this issue.

Update Feb. 28 @ 8:45 p.m.

As of 5 p.m. all cellular service disruptions have been corrected. These systems are currently running on backup generators and as repairs are made over the coming weeks brief interruptions may occur.
