Auburn enhances IT security with 2-factor authentication

To better protect Auburn University data, students, and employees, Auburn has implemented a high-security login process referred to as 2-factor authentication. Auburn uses Duo Security to ask individuals for a secondary confirmation of their identity at log in using a physical device in their possession. The physical device may be a smartphone or tablet using an app, a text message to a phone, pressing a hardware token device, or an automated voice call to a landline or cell phone.

Starting Monday, July 18, 2016 at 1 p.m. users connecting to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) must select the 2FACTOR VPN profile, which requires 2-factor authentication.

Some employees, such as Banner Admin users, may be required to use an alternate VPN profile secured with 2-factor. Some web applications with visibility to sensitive information have already implemented 2-factor authentication and over time more web resources will adopt 2-factor authentication.
