We've recently been made aware of an increase in targeted 'phishing' emails toward Auburn employees and students. These 'phishing' emails are designed to trick users into giving up their usernames and passwords or personal information, which can later be used for anything ranging from cleaning out bank accounts or identity theft to sending more spam or phishing emails. They often are designed to look like legitimate email from Auburn University, banks, on-line vendors, or social media sites.
We would like to remind you of some simple steps to prevent becoming a victim of 'phishing' attempts.
If you receive an email that you believe may be a phishing attempt please feel free to forward it to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also learn more about phishing prevention at: http://www.auburn.edu/phishing/
