MyAccount

General Information

MyAccount is an account management tool that allows you to update your password, set up an alternate email address to receive account change notifications, and establish security questions so that you can reset your own password (if you forget it).

REMINDER: Your password will need to be updated immediately on all devices (e.g., phones, tablets, laptops). Failure to do so may automatically lock your account. If this occurs, contact the OIT HelpDesk at 334-844-4944.

Update Password

What are the rules for changing my password?

The rules for changing your password are as follows:

  • Must begin with a letter
  • Minimum 8 characters, Maximum 16 characters
  • Must use at least 3 of the following 4:
    • An UPPERCASE letter (ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ)
    • A lowercase letter (abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz)
    • A number (0123456789)
    • A special character (! @ # $ % ^ & * - _ + = [ ] { } | \ : ' , . ? / ` ~ " < > ( ) ; are allowed)
      *Note: Banner (INB) users may only use an _ or $ as special characters
How does the password strength meter work?

The password strength meter indicates how strong your password is by switching from

  •     Very Weak
  •     Weak
  •     Average
  •     Strong
  •     Very Strong

Update Alternate Email Address

What is an alternate email address?

An alternate email address is an email address that you currently monitor, which is also not your official university email address (ex. address@gmail.com).

If I set up an alternate email address, will it forward all my AU emails to that address?

No. MyAccount notifications are sent automatically to your Auburn email address and can also be sent to an alternate email address if you specify one. This feature has nothing to do with your regular AU email messages.

Why should I set up an alternate email address?

If you forget your password and can't retrieve it using MyAccount, the OIT HelpDesk can send a new password to you at your alternate email address. The HelpDesk employee never sees your password - the message to your alternate email address is generated automatically. In addition, you can receive MyAccount notifications at an alternate email address if desired.

Will my alternate email address be published anywhere?

No. The email address you provide will be saved in a secure database and will only be used for MyAccount functions and processes.

Update Security Questions & Answers

What are security questions?

Security questions and your answers to those questions are used to verify your identity if you forget your password. If you click on the Forgot Password? link it will ask you one biographical question and two of the security questions you established. These questions should be ones that only you know the answer to. Note: you can answer anything you like to the questions but remember you will need to be able to recall what you answered. If you answer correctly you can proceed to reset your password.

Can I make up my own security questions?

No. That feature is not available at this time. We hope to implement this ability in a future release.

Request VPN Access

What is VPN Access and why should I request it?

VPN (Virtual Private Network) Access creates a secure connection to Auburn University's network. If you are off-campus, a VPN connection may be required to reach some AU online resources (ex. Specific Library Content), update your AU hosted webspace (P: Drive), and many others. Also establishing a VPN connection is a good idea if you are using an insecure network, such as a wireless hot-spot provided by a cafe.

Why do I have to do this when I used to have VPN Access?

Requesting VPN Access has been implemented as a security measure. We apologize for the inconvenience if you used to use the VPN client and have now been required to request access. Once you have requested VPN access through MyAccount, you will not be asked to do so again.

I forgot my password. Now what?

If you have established security questions you can get into the MyAccount application through the Forgot Password? link on the MyAccount login page. If you have not set up your security questions, please contact the OIT HelpDesk at 334-844-4944.

Account Activation FAQ's

I have applied to Auburn but I don't know my student number.

New students will receive a deposit confirmation letter containing this information which is needed to activate an account. If this letter has been lost, please contact the Admissions Office.

I've already activated my Auburn University account. Can I do it again?

No. If you try to activate your computing account again you will receive the error: Already Active.
