Cross-Platform Compatibility
Issued by: Office of the Executive Director, OIT
March 8, 2006
Purpose:
The purpose of this policy is to ensure a level of cross-platform compatibility of IT services, applications, and infrastructure components with respect to operating systems and web browsers, recognizing that while Auburn University computers largely run Microsoft Windows, it is not a single operating system environment.
Policy:
Auburn University is committed to the concept of cross-platform compatibility in IT applications, services and infrastructure. Cross-platform compatibility should always be a major consideration in the selection and/or design of IT applications, services and infrastructure components and cross-platform compatibility features should be part of featured service offerings on web pages and other such materials. However, it is recognized that other criteria, such as functionality, cost, and timely implementation may override true and complete generic cross-platform compatibility; when options are available, interoperability will be the goal.
