Experience has shown that the work of providing information technology for the Auburn University community is enhanced by advice and direction from the people who are served. To this end, IT at AU is guided and its direction steered by groups representing all members of the university community. These include:
- ACAC (Academic Computing Advisory Committee)
- ASMT (Administrative Systems Management Team)
- Distributed IT Managers
- ETAC (Education Technology Advisory Committee)
- HRS Steering Committee
- OASIS Management Team
- OIT Cabinet
Academic Computing Advisory Committee
The Academic Computing Committee reviews on an annual basis the status and needs of academic computing and recommends action and policies, or policy changes, with regard to academic computing. The committee consists of nine faculty members, the Executive Director of the Office of Information Technology, two undergraduate students nominated by the President of the Student Government Association, and one graduate student nominated by the President of the Graduate Student Organization.
Administrative Systems Management Team
The ASMT provides oversight direction and addresses inter-system concerns for Auburn University's core administrative systems (OASIS, HRS and FRS). Specifically, the ASMT addresses coordination and communication issues between the systems and the individual system management teams, addresses resource allocation issues and charters the future direction for these systems. The ASMT is a small, central team with ad hoc committees that examine and evaluate various specific issues. The team is currently co-chaired by the Controller and the Executive Director of OIT.
ETAC (Educational Technology Advisory Council)
The Educational Technology Support Advisory Council is charged with providing advice and counsel to the Provost and the Office of Information Technology regarding the direction of educational technology and its support at Auburn University. The goal is to assure that such technology is used appropriately and effectively in both teaching and at Auburn University.
The Advisory Council is expected to define critical educational information technology issues, to seek and point out significant opportunities, and to assist in the establishment of educational information technology priorities. As a part of these tasks, it is also expected to assess and report on the strengths and weaknesses of current educational technology support programs.
The Advisory Council's focus is on the educational aspects of information technology rather than on the technological details. In addition to the Associate Executive Director for Educational Support for OIT, who is an ex officio member, the Provost appoints about nine other members, serving on a rotating basis, and drawing from Auburn's best teachers and senior college administrators, to serve on the ETAC.
The Human Resource System steering committee works to resolve any issues and problems that may arise with HRS, as well as considering ways to improve the functionality of the system. Representatives from all affected areas serve on this team: Payroll, Human Resources, Budget Services, the Assistant Vice President for Business & Finance, Internal Auditing, Planning & Analysis, AAEEO, OIT and ISS.
The OASIS Management Team (OMT) has been charged by the Provost to manage OASIS as a University resource. This includes setting priorities for requests for reports, additions and changes to the system. The OMT conducts bi-monthly meetings.
The OIT Cabinet consists of the Executive Director, all the OIT Directors and the Distributed IT Coordinator. This group meets each week to resolve issues, set directions and priorities, and to review projects. Each department director has opportunity to present ideas and directions for departmental initiatives and receive input from the other directors and the Distributed IT Coordinator.
