PDAs

Choose your device from the following:

Blackberry

Before you can activate your Blackberry, ensure that you have programmed the phone with the provider. You can verify this by simply making a successful phone call from the device. Also you will need to verify that you have a data connection. You can do this by opening the Internet Browser on the phone and navigating successfully to a web page of your choice. We suggest http://www.google.com/pda which is a fast loading stripped down web page for PDAs.

*****If you are NOT using Verizon as your provider you may need to contact the provider to ensure that you can use an Enterprise server with your device. Some providers charge an extra monthly fee for this service and some do not.*****

  1. Your will receive an activation password from OIT. Head to Enterprise Activation on the Blackberry and enter the information. For email use your full email address: userid@auburn.edu where userid is your Auburn user name. Enter the password provided in your email from OIT. Click the wheel and choose activate.

  2. Activation will start and take approximately ten minutes.

Once activation completes your email will reside in the messaging field, your calendar in the calendar field, and your address book will be in the address book field.

Note: By default email deleted on the Blackberry is only deleted on the device and not in your GroupWise account. To change this open the Messages on the device, click the wheel and choose Options. Open Email Reconciliation. "Delete ON' is the first item listed. To change that option click the wheel and choose 'Change Option.' Once you select your option click the wheel again and choose Save to save your changes. The following are the available options in the current Blackberry operating system:

Troubleshooting

  1. Problem: Activation is not successful and you have verified that you can make a phone call, browse the web, and you've verified that you can use Enterprise services on your account (for non-Verizon users only).

Solution: Simply try again. If that fails remove the battery and try again.

  2. Problem: I'm still unsuccessful.

Solution: Make sure that you are not filtering the email from blackberry.net that you will receive in your inbox. You should NOT open or move this email. It should only be in your inbox for a matter of seconds while the server verifies your account. You may also need to temporarily turn off any junk mail or other email rules to ensure this message is correctly handled.

  3. Problem: My Blackberry seems to have locked up or I cannot move out of a specific program.

Solution: Remove the battery and replace, this will reset the device. You may also reset it by pressing the half moon + CAP + DEL keys simultaneously.

  4. Problem: I'm deleting my email on the Blackberry but it is not deleting in GroupWise.

Solution: On the Blackberry open the messaging applet and click the wheel. Choose Options>Email Reconciliation. In the 'Delete On' field click the wheel. To delete the mail on the server choose either 'prompt' or 'Handheld and Mailbox.'
