Updating SLES 9

Task:

Updating SLES 9 using AU SuSE Mirror Server and YaST Online Update

How to do it:

Section 2.3.2 page 32.

  1. Log in as root.

  2. Click on the red N in the green circle in the lower lefthand corner.

  3. Click on Control Center.

  4. Click on YaST2 Modules.

  5. Click on Software.

  6. Click on Online Updates. It will look for mirror servers, which takes a little while. Eventually you will see a screen that says Welcome to YaST Online Update.

  7. Click on New Server. Choose HTTP. For server name, use mirror.duc.auburn.edu. For directory on server, use YOU. Leave Authentication with Anonymous checked. Click OK.

  8. The Installation Source drop-down box should have User-defined Location selected, and under that should be a URL that looks like: http://mirror.duc.auburn.edu/YOU

  9. Click Next in the lower righthand corner of Online Update screen.

  10. Select the packages you want to update. If a kernel package update appears, you will probably want to do the other updates first, then at a time when you can reboot the server, run YaST2 again and do the kernel update by itself.

  11. Click Accept. Your selected packages will download and install. When they are done, click Finish.

  12. Let the process finish. When you have a gray screen, you are done.
