Setting the local password

Task:

To set the local password for a Windows NT, 2000, or XP computer.

How to do it:

  1. Right-click the "My Computer" icon from your desktop or Windows Start menu.

  2. Choose "Manage" from the menu that appears.

  3. Click the plus sign left of the "Local Users and Groups" icon.

  4. Click the "Users" folder to display a list of user accounts in the right frame.

  5. Locate the desired account name in the right frame and right-click the account name.

  6. Choose "Set Password" from the pop-up menu that appears.

  7. Enter a strong password in the dialog box that appears.

    DO NOT FORGET THIS PASSWORD! If you forget the Administrator password it may result in data loss and re-installation of the operating system.
