Renaming the Administrator account in Windows XP

Task:

To rename the Administrator account in Windows XP

How to do it:

  1. Click the Windows Start button and choose "Control Panel".

  2. Click the "User Accounts" icon.

  3. Click "Change an Account" from the Pick a Task... submenu.

  4. Click the "Administrator" icon.

  5. Choose "Change my name".

  6. Enter a new name for the account. We recommend using your global id as the new name.

  7. Click the "Change Name" button to save your changes.

  8. If you have not been using a password to log on to Your Windows XP computer, click the back button and choose "Change my password".

  9. Enter a strong password in the dialog box that appears.

    DO NOT FORGET THIS PASSWORD! If you forget the Administrator password it may result in data loss and re-installation of the operating system.

  10. Click the "Change Password" button to save your changes.
