Installing the netfw.ini file

Task:

I need to install the netfw.inf file which will allow normal communication to resume between my computer and OIT services that I use.

Note: If you computer has been joined to the Auburn Domain, you are not required to install this file. It has been placed on your computer automatically.

How to do it:

  1. Go to: http://www.auburn.edu/download

  2. Find the Configuration File for Window XP Service Pack 2 listing, near the top of the page.

  3. Click the Click Here to Download button just to the right.

  4. When prompted, choose to Save the file.

  5. Make sure that you save this file to some place where it is easy to locate. Your Desktop is a good example.

  6. Close your browser and find the file in the location that you saved it.

  7. Right-click on the netfw.inf file and choose to Install it.

  8. That is it. All AU applications should work properly. You are not required to restart.
