Desktop Cleanup Wizard
Task:
My computer desktop has become cluttered with shortcuts and icons. Is there an easy way to clean it up?
How to do it:
The Desktop Cleanup Wizard helps you clean up your desktop by moving rarely used shortcuts to a desktop folder called Unused Desktop Shortcuts.
Follow these steps:
- Right-click anywhere on the computer desktop with all programs closed
or minimized.
- Point to Arrange Icons By.
- Click Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard.
- Click Next on the window that opens to display the "Shortcuts"
Page.
- Make sure there is a check in only the boxes for the items you no
longer wish to have on your desktop. These items will not be deleted,
but instead placed in a folder on the desktop titled "Unused Desktop
Shortcuts".
- Click Finish.
If you would like to restore any of the icons:
- Open the folder on your desktop called "Unused Desktop Shortcuts".
- In the File and Folder Tasks menu in the upper left-hand
corner, click Move this file.
- When the Move Items dialog box opens, select the appropriate
destination for the files you wish to move, most likely the "Desktop".
- Click on Move.
