How To Connect To AU_WiFi with Windows XP


Before continuing determine which Service Pack you have installed:

  1. Right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties".
  2. Look in the "System" area on the "General" tab.
  3. If you have a Service Pack installed it will be listed there.
  4. You may continue if you have at least Service Pack 3, which includes the WPA2 update (KB893357).

To configure your Windows XP computer follow these instructions:

  1. Click Start > Connect To > Show all connections.
  2. Right-click your wireless network connection and select "View Available Wireless Networks".

  3. If you are in range of an AU_WiFi access point you will see AU_WiFi listed. Select it and click "Connect".
  4. Once a balloon pops-up in your taskbar, click "Change the order of preferred networks".

  5. Click the "Wireless Networks" tab, select AU_WiFi, and click the "Properties" button.

    Note: If you do not have a "Wireless Networks" tab, your wireless connections are probably being managed by a third party application. You can attempt to disable this application or contact the Student PC Shop for assistance.


  6. On the "Association" tab, WPA2 should be selected as the network authentication type and the data encryption type should be set to AES.

    Note: If WPA2 is not an option, you do not have the required WPA2 update. Go to Microsoft's Update site (http://update.microsoft.com) and install Service Pack 3 or Download & Install the WPA2 update.


  7. Click the "Authentication" tab. Select "Protected EAP (PEAP)" from the drop-down list. Make sure the bottom two check boxes are not selected. Then, click the "Properties" button.

  8. Check "Validate server certificate" and "Connect to these servers:".
    Type "wxauth.auburn.edu;wxauth2.auburn.edu" (no spaces).
    Check "IPS SERVIDORES" from the Trusted Root Certification Authorities list.
    Check "Do not prompt user to authorize new servers or trusted certification authorities."
    Select "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)" from the drop-down list.
    Check "Enable Fast Reconnect"
    Click the "Configure..." button.

  9. Make sure that you uncheck "Automatically use my Windows logon..." and click "OK". Continue to click "OK" until all properties windows are closed.

  10. Right-click your Wireless Network Connection and select "View Available Wireless Networks".

  11. Select AU_WiFi and click "Connect".
  12. A balloon should pop-up in your taskbar that says, "Click here to select a certificate or other credentials for connection". Click this balloon.

  13. You should now see a "Enter Credentials" window. Enter you Auburn User Name (No @auburn.edu) and Password for authentication (Leave Logon Domain blank). Click "OK".

  14. If you do not already have the Cisco Clean Access Agent installed, when you open a web browser for the first time, you will be prompted to download and install it. Click the "Download Clean Access Agent" button.

  15. Once the Cisco Clean Access Agent is installed, you should see it begin to automatically log you into the Clean Access system.

  16. Last, you should see the Cisco Clean Access Agent with the notification "Successfully Logged in to the network."
