Video Conferencing

The videoconferencing facility at Auburn University is located in a shared classroom wing of the Aerospace Engineering building at Auburn University. The classroom will seat 24 students. The videoconferencing equipment is a VTEL system with the following features and capabilities:

 

Equipment Available:

  • (3) video cameras, two with remote control ability
  • (3) 35" monitors
  • Elmo document stand
  • Live studio origination coordination
  • 35mm slide input
  • VCR input and recording
  • Windows or Mac computer input, with Internet connection
Technical Specifications:
  • Operates in H.221 or VTEL protocol
  • Dial capability through Alabama's Intercampus Interactive Telecommunications System
  • Full duplex audio
  • Supported by Media Production Group personnel

The facility is in operation with regularly scheduled classes taught on a daily basis. Classes are taught from Auburn or received from sites as near as Tuskegee University (25 miles) and as far as California Polytechnic Institute (2,500 miles). Courses are routinely shared between AU and the University of Alabama.

 

The facility is not a commercial site.

 

The AU videoconferencing facility is part of the IITS which is a network of similar facilities located throughout Alabama. Currently over 25 rooms exist in 10 cities. The system is also compatible with the State of Alabama ISD videoconferencing network.
