An Internet Protocol (IP) address is the location of a particular connection to the Internet, expressed as four series of digits separated by dots. A computer registered with the Domain Name System (DNS) also has a human-readable domain name associated with its IP address. All Internet-connected on-campus Auburn University computers have IP addresses beginning with 131.204 and, if they are registered with the DNS, domain names ending with auburn.edu. DNS also supports separate mappings between mail destinations and IP addresses. For example, mail sent to mail.auburn.edu actually goes to a machine named ducserv.duc.auburn.edu which has the IP address 131.204.2.14.

Note: If the domain name shown is same as the IP address, then the connection you are using does not have a domain name.
