General Information and Rates
General information
AU Dial is a dial-up service which offers AU Net and Internet access similar to the services provided by commercial Internet Service Providers (ISP's). AU Dial is available to Auburn University departments to provide off-campus access for their employees for use for business purposes. The department is required to give the FRS account number to be billed.
Rate information
Unlimited usage is provided for a charge of $8.00 per month.
"Toll-Free" access is available to users when traveling to avoid having to pay hotel long-distance charges. However, since "toll-free" service is not actually free to the University, calls to the toll-free number will be billed to the department at a rate of $0.05 per minute.
Access Numbers
Local Access: (334) 844-2323
Long-Distance Access: (877) 534-9981
AU User Name and Password
After you follow the sign up process through your Administrative Computing Coordinator, an AU User Name and OIT password are created for you if you don't already have them. These are used to verify your identity when you log in to AU Dial.
Software available when using AU Dial
AU Net Software
There are several software tools you may wish to use with your AU Dial connection. The AU Dial CD in your AU Dial installation package contains the AU Net Software applications. After AU Dial is installed, you are asked whether you wish to install any of these products. To see a detailed list of the AU Net products available on the CD, answer Yes and choose Customized list of products.
AU Net Software includes telnet, FTP, virus protection and e-mail software and is freely available to students, faculty and staff at Auburn University.
Once you have a Web browser like Internet Explorer installed, you can also download via AU Install for later versions of AU Net Software released after the CD was made.
GroupWise
If you use GroupWise e-mail on-campus, you may use the CD to install the GroupWise client on your off-campus desktop to use as you do on campus; however this is not suggested with a dial-up connection. You can also use TigerMail to read your messages from any Web-enabled computer, whether or not it has GroupWise installed. Simply point your browser to http://tigermail.auburn.edu.
Resources available when using AU Dial

On-Campus-Only Resources
Certain resources such as the Auburn USENET newsgroups are only available from "on campus." These are available via AU Dial from anywhere in the world.
Shared Drive Access
If your department uses AU Office shared file space, it is possible to set up your off-campus computer to access your department's Novell local area network drive. The procedure for making this available is under development.
