Aubie the Tiger

Official mascot of Auburn University

Aubie, the lovable costumed Tiger mascot of Auburn University, has been a popular character among fans for nearly 33 years. He first appeared as a cartoon character on the Auburn/Hardin-Simmons football program cover on Oct. 3, 1959, but it was on Feb. 28, 1979, that he came to life, making his first appearance at an Auburn men's basketball game against Vanderbilt at the SEC Tournament in Birmingham, Ala. Aubie is a six-time national champion and was the first collegiate mascot inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame. Most recently, Aubie won first place in the national collegiate mascot video portion of the competition, qualifying him to compete in the overall championship in January. He has also been a member of the Capital One All-American Mascot Team six times, including this year, in which he is once again competing for the title of Capital One National Mascot of the Year. A group of dedicated students and advisors, along with the Friends of Aubie, make up the Aubie family, and are assisted by the Aubie Committee, who meet each Tuesday night before home football games to help Aubie get ready for gameday. Aubie makes hundreds of appearances at various events on campus and throughout the community each year.
