Robert Cofield is a two-time Auburn graduate, earning a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2013, graduating with Phi Kappa Phi, and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2016. As an undergraduate, Cofield was a research assistant in the GPS and Vehicle Dynamics Laboratory, where he created graphical user interface (GUI) to debug and demonstrate sensor fusion algorithm for ground vehicle navigation; developed, tested and implemented graphical aid to assist convoy drivers in low visibility using differential GPS; and programmed autonomous miniature robot navigation algorithm as an integral part of a rapid development team. He served in the same lab as a navigation engineering research assistant throughout graduate school. Cofield also spent a semester in graduate school interning at the Honda Research Institute USA, Inc., in San Francisco. He started his job at Tesla, the California-based electronic car manufacturer founded by Elon Musk, a few months after graduation in 2016.
