Construction/Road Closings

Dear Students of Auburn University,
 
On January 31, Auburn University begins construction of the Science
Laboratory Center to be located south of Roosevelt Drive and between
Mell Street and Duncan Avenue.  When completed in the spring of 2005,
every core class involving biology and chemistry and undergraduate
chemistry and zoology classes will take place in the Science Laboratory
Center.  Designed as a three-building complex, the center will occupy
approximately 135,000 square feet in an area between Parker Hall and
Duncan Hall, across the street from the Lower Quad Residence Halls. 

As with any construction project, there will be changes to the campus
near the work site. Most notably is the closing of Roosevelt Drive at
the intersection of Mell Street and Duncan Drive.  Once work begins,
only mandatory service and emergency vehicles will be allowed in this
block of Roosevelt.  Forty-seven B-zone and R-zone parking spaces will
be removed along Roosevelt Drive and replaced in the southwest corner of
the Math Annex parking lot. 

As an alternative to this change in parking spaces and traffic flow, I
would strongly encourage each of you to consider using the new and
improved Tiger Transit System.  This transit service is undergoing an
overhaul and promises to be more efficient.  

Three new routes go into service on Monday, February 3, 2003 - Blue,
Orange and Green.  These new lines have complete schedules with average
run times of fewer than seven minutes.  The new "Blue Line" or park and
ride offers students the convenience of parking at the Intramural Fields
and riding to Haley Center.  The first 1,000 riders of the Blue Line
receive special coupons good at campus eateries - free food!  The
"Orange Line" travels a central campus route and the "Green Line" covers
a west campus route.  For more information, please consult the transit
