Auburn University is in the midst of an outbreak of the Klez virus.
On-campus users run a high risk of receiving its deadly payload. It is carried
via an e-mail message with an attached file that may be a .bat, .exe, .pif or
.scr file. If you use Outlook(/Express), you can get Klez even without
opening the attachment. Messages are going around claiming to have a Klez
prevention tool and instructing you to disable your virus protection. (AU
folks aren't buying that, are we? Please say no!) The From field is
faked, so the message may appear to be from someone in your address book. You
may get bounce messages saying a message you sent is undeliverable, referring to
messages you didn't send. Simply delete them. Do not open an e-mail
attachment even if the sender appears to be someone you know. Ask the sender for
a confirmation reply before opening the attachment. An infected message cannot
be easily identified by its subject line or the name of the attached file. If
you are running the current McAfee software available free from
www.auburn.edu/download according to
the instructions at
www.auburn.edu/oit/virus, then you
are protected from Klez. If you already have the virus, use the removal
