Return Visit by Dr. Bill Weary

Dear Members of the Auburn Community,

As described in my message of September 6, Dr. Bill Weary is returning
to campus to continue his process of learning about Auburn. He will be
on campus Wednesday through Friday of this week. My purpose in this
message is to provide some background for his visit.

Dr. Weary's first visits to campus in late July and August were focused
on the preparations for and the timing of a presidential search. At the
August 31 meeting he recommended delaying the search for several
reasons. He also offered a preliminary sketch of tasks that the
university might consider undertaking as it prepares for a search.

In response to a trustee's question, Dr. Weary also indicated his
willingness to continue helping Auburn determine what lies ahead, and to
provide counsel for the Board on matters including its governance
processes and its assessment of itself. His return to campus this week
is being coordinated by the Office of the President, and is intended to
round out his interviews through meetings with people he was not able to
talk with in August.

On this visit he will conduct small-group meetings, including at least
two sessions with faculty members. Later today my office will send a
message to faculty inviting them to sign up for these sessions. Dr.
Weary has stated that he will be pleased to appear in an open forum
after he has completed this week's interviews and had time to review all
the input he has received and prepare conclusions and recommendations. I
am grateful to all who will be taking part in the interviews this week.
