What is the Graduate Student Council?

Graduate Student Council is a graduate student organization that seeks to strives to fulfill the unique needs of graduate students while offering a network of support and encouragement. It exists to provide a collective voice for its members, acting as the official graduate student representation in university affairs and the Student Government Association (SGA).

We encourage participation from all graduate students in all departments. Please feel free to attend any GSC meeting and become active in our organization. We will also be sponsoring social events during the year that we hope you will attend, as well as the 2006 Graduate Research Forum that is open to all graduate students at Auburn University.

Tigermail and Information Technology at Auburn

Tigermail

Email (Tigermail) is the official means of communication at Auburn University. First-time users can get their login name and password once they are registered for courses by following the protocol at http://www.auburn.edu/oit/support/students/accounts/ht_getting_auun.php. Once you have your name and password, you can access directly at http://tigermail.auburn.edu or via the Auburn student website (http://www.auburn.edu/main/currentstudents.html).

Note: Graduate students in the College of Engineering need to go to the Engineering Network Services in 103 L-building to gain access to the Engineering computer labs.

Wireless Internet Access

Transportation, Parking and Maps

Tiger Transit

The Tiger Transit main page is located at http://www.auburn.edu/administration/parking_transit/transit/. The routes are given at http://www.auburn.edu/administration/parking_transit/transit/routes.html.

Parking

On campus, parking is restricted to certain zones. You can order parking permits (C-zone for all students & B-zone for some graduate students) at http://www.auburn.edu/administration/parking_transit/parking/register.html. At odd times in the year, you can go directly to the Parking Services office at 215 S. Donahue Drive. Parking is always available; however, lots are often at a distance. In town, most of the parking is metered from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday and free the rest of the week.

IDs and Driver’s Licenses

Auburn University Student IDs

Student IDs can be obtained in the Foy Student Union Food Court next to Chick-fil-A. The cost is billed directly to the Bursar Bill.

Alabama Driver's Licenses

Required identification and forms are listed at http://www.dps.state.al.us/public/driverlicense/pdf/ApplyingDL.pdf. Non-International students can go to the Driver's License Office located at 611 S. Railroad Avenue in Opelika. Important: International students must travel to Montgomery to receive an ID or Driver’s License. More information about drivers' licenses can be found by calling the Driver's License Office at (334) 742-9986 or by going to the Alabama Department of Public Safety site.

Student Medical, Health and Insurance Needs

Sign up at http://www.studentinsurance.net. For more information on the student insurance plan, see their Frequently Asked Questions page. The AU Medical Clinic is located at 400 Lem Morrison Drive and is accessible using Tiger Transit. The AU Medical Clinic houses the following services under one roof:

News and Employment

The Corner News, Opelika-Auburn News, and the AU student newspaper, The Plainsman, each have advertisements for employment, and most businesses post Help Wanted signs.
