Program Description

The Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering provides the curriculum necessary for you to earn your non-thesis Master of Materials Engineering through distance education.

The program is a flexible, DVD-R based adaptation of the traditional or on-campus program. Graduate level courses are taped in our multimedia classrooms while the classes are being conducted. The DVDs are then mailed on the day of the class and are usually available for you the day after the on-campus class session end.

As a distance education student, you are expected to complete the same homework assignments and take the same exams as on-campus students. In effect, you are in the same class and receiving the same quality instruction as on-campus students.

Immediate access to professors and classmates is available through the Internet and other communications technologies. You can communicate by telephone, fax, mail and e-mail. In addition, advisors will set aside designated telephone time for you.

Students completing the degree program are expected to have knowledge in the following areas: mechanical properties; materials structure; materials thermodynamics; kinetics; and electrical, optical and magnetic properties of materials.

The Master of Materials Engineering degree is intended for those who expect to enter the engineering profession at an advanced level or are practicing engineers wishing to gain additional fundamental knowledge in the materials field. Emphasis in this distance-learning degree program is on professional development.
