Delivery SystemsCTSE: Foreign Language Education courses involve readings with written homework, lectures, live electronic chat and direct voice for oral interaction, special projects, and exams. Reading assignments and written homework are posted on Blackboard. Exams may be taken on-campus or with a proctor. If the student chooses to use a proctor, the exams will be delivered via email directly to the proctor with complete instructions for proctoring and returning the completed exam. Many students prefer to come to campus for final exams which are always on Saturdays. Lecture/discussions/on-campus student presentations involve two-way interaction and are delivered as synchronous streaming video; distance students participate in discussions via either electronic chat or Live Classroom (direct voice). Three video cameras are used in the classroom to stream lectures/discussions/presentations. One camera focuses on the instructor or student presenter and one focuses on the students in the classroom. A third camera is used to focus on visuals or written work on the white board. The instructor views a computer screen to receive questions or comments typed by distance students. On-campus students use laptops to communicate with distance students through electronic chat and direct voice tools. Students submit digital recordings of oral assessments and DVDs of Professional Work Samples. The DVD samples are posted on the class Blackboard page as streaming video files that peers and the instructor view asynchronously. Students submit all written materials through Blackboard. The use of electronic chat through Blackboard allows students to interact synchronously in writing with on-campus peers and the professor. All small group discussions are conducted using Live classroom. Students will need speakers and microphones on their computers for all classroom interactions. The required library resources are available for distance education students: document delivery, electronic access to reference services, interlibrary loan, and a Web page with links to services and contacts and self-help modules. Students will be informed of these resources during orientation sessions and in course materials. Students will need to have the latest model computers with fast broadband Internet connections (DSL or cable modem) with speakers and microphones. |
