Requirements


Admission Requirements

  • The general admissions requirements for this program are set by the Auburn University Graduate School.
  • Potential students will apply to the Graduate School, following normal application procedures of the Graduate School.
  • Applicants to the program must have a bachelor's degree in music education and appropriate teaching certification.
  • Send transcripts and GRE scores to the Graduate School.
  • Send three letters of recommendation, copy of teaching certificate, and a current resume  to:

Note that preregistration for summer courses begins in early March; allow several weeks for receipt of college transcripts and GRE scores.

Degree Requirements

  • Master's degree students complete 12 hours of Music Education courses, 16 hours of Music courses, and 6 hours of Education courses for a total of 34 hours.
  • Upon completion of course work, student must pass a written examination that will be administered by their master's degree advisory committee.
  • Alternative Master's Certification, Ed.S., and Ph.D. applicants should see the Music Education Graduate Degrees web page for additional degree requirements.

Special Options and Requirements

  • Students are required to complete to attend orientation day on campus or complete an online orientation before enrolling.
  • All students are required to attend a two-day seminar on campus each summer they are enrolled.
  • Some courses include optional on-campus sessions.
  • Course delivery is highly interactive, so distance students must own late-model computers with broadband Internet access (DSL or cable service), headphones and microphone, and have access to a fax machine and a video camera.
  • Some courses require specific software titles.
