Orientation
for Distance Education Students
TigerMail and
OIT Account Activation
Your
Office
of Information Technology (OIT) account gives you access
to your student
TigerMail account,
Blackboard,
AUAccess,
and to other secure sites at Auburn University. Much of your coursework
as a distance learner will require you to log in using this identification.
Class-related and official university email will be sent to your student
address (userid@auburn.edu), so you MUST have this account set up. Visit
the TechStart section
of the OIT website as soon as you can to do this. Note: if you are
accessing secure sites (like these at Auburn) from a workplace computer,
it may be necessary to contact your local IT person to allow the proper
permissions.

Streaming Video and
Class Media
Our
program utilizes Real streaming media technology. Please take some time
to test and set up your computer so that you are comfortable with access
and playback. We also provide audio versions of lectures, including podcasts.
You will be guided through specifics as individual classes proceed. NOTE:
since this method of delivery is unique to our program/college, OIT tech
support may not be able to help you. If you experience trouble with our
class media, please refer to the help page directly below or contact cspd@auburn.edu.

Textbooks
You
may obtain your books from any source, but the AU Bookstore staff, located
in Haley Center, are familiar with our distance students and are prepared
with your texts. Order online (http://www.aubookstore.com)
or call 334-844-1361. If you are on campus and paying for textbooks with
a purchase order, take them to the “Departmental Charge” counter. Your
textbooks will be listed each semester under the appropriate semester link
on the program website: http://www.auburn.edu/cspd/
Blackboard
Most
of your instructors will utilize Blackboard, which is the university's
course tool software. You access Blackboard using your OIT user ID and
password. You will be informed further by your instructor as to its use
in specific classes. You may contact cspd@auburn.edu
with questions about how Blackboard is used in your program. Click
here for Blackboard help links.
Proctors
Auburn
University requires that all distance education exams be proctored whether
the exams are administered electronically, emailed, or hard copies sent
through regular mail. You must have an approved proctor in place
before your first scheduled exam. Please read Guidelines.
Accessibility and
Accommodations
Because
our program is media rich and technically complex, there may be accessibility
challenges. We strive to make our online programs accessible to all and
have been highly successful in that goal. If you anticipate difficulty
accessing online class materials due to a documented disability, please
contact us as soon as possible. It is important to be in touch with us
(the program and professors) early on, as well as with AU's Program
for Students with Disabilities to ensure proper accommodation. The PSD
provides reasonable accommodations and services for qualified students
with documented disabilities who are attending Auburn University, enrolled
in distance learning classes, or participating in programs sponsored by
Auburn University. Program
